PhD Students Cultivation

During the doctoral program stage, the school will provide high-quality and comprehensive doctoral courses that present the frontiers of contemporary science or cross-disciplinary knowledge. The courses will further broaden and deepen the basic theories and professional knowledge of doctoral students, enable them to grasp the latest scientific research achievements at the frontiers of their disciplines and the necessary knowledge of related disciplines, improve the innovation ability and scientific research level, and enhance their adaptability to work after graduation.

Meanwhile, the program focuses on moral education and cultivating innovative abilities and vigorously nurtures high-level economics talents with a sense of family and country. Graduates can also meet the needs of the country, and skillfully use various research methods to conduct innovative research and practice.

Training Mode:

1. BIBS's doctoral supervisory system comprehensively strengthens moral education and value guidance for doctoral students, meanwhile reinforcing the education on academic ethics and integrity, and guiding students to adhere to academic ethics and professional conduct.

2. Established a doctoral supervision responsibility system. The supervisor is the first to be held responsible for the qualification assessment, dissertation proposal, viva voce, and dissertation quality of the doctoral students. Supervisors, based on the training plan and objectives, as well as considering the individual characteristics and expertise of doctoral students, pinpoint their specific training plans. Furthermore, by creating personalized training plans, supervisors guide and oversee the learning and research activities of doctoral students, ensuring that they meet the standards expected of doctoral candidates in areas such as ideological and political values and research capabilities.

3. The cultivation centers on research competence. On the one hand, students are enabled to meet the requirements of the academic objectives through various means and methods of support including supervision, assignments, and targeted participation in scientific research. On the other hand, PhD students are obliged to actively cooperate with the teaching of their faculties and supervisors. In addition to reading papers, students should pay attention to and follow the academic frontiers in Economics-related fields, as well as actively participating in various academic activities. During each semester of their studies, PhD students are expected to complete relevant study tasks according to the plan set by their supervisors and to make detailed reports on the progress of their academic research, which will be evaluated by their supervisory team.

4. PhD students are expected to actively participate in their supervisor's relevant research projects during their studies. Through practical work in scientific research, they can enhance their scientific research ability, realize the combination of course study and scientific research, and cultivate the ability to independently engage in high-level scientific research and develop their self-learning and innovation abilities. In the meantime, as a part of improving the research ability of PhD students, the PhD program in Applied Economics should actively establish and improve the cultivation mechanism and academic platform that can help motivate and give full play to the role of academic teams. It is also important to realize the combination of supervisors and supervisory groups, the cooperation between individual guidance and group guidance, and the integration of theoretical knowledge learning and practical research, to provide support for improving students' research ability from various aspects. The institution places significant emphasis on fostering students' academic communication skills. Students are encouraged to actively participate in both domestic and international academic conferences, visit various international research institutions for collaborative research, and engage in joint training programs.
