摘要：Rooted in the literatures on empathy, social status seeking, and competitiveness, we develop hypotheses about the effects of a competitive monetary incentive on empathy expressed in community member responses that are written to provide support to other community members seeking support in online platforms for mental health (OPMHs). We operationalize empathy using machine learning methods and test our hypotheses using data on 1,455,941 responses to support seeking posts from two prominent OPMHs in China in a quasi-natural experiment setting. Our findings provide unique insights on how a competitive monetary incentive works in improving empathy expression in this important online setting.

个人简介：周军杰，中国人民大学博士，汕头大学商学院教授，广东省粤东数字管理与智慧治理重点实验室执行主任，美国俄勒冈州立大学商学院访问学者。兼任中国信息经济学会理事，中国老年学和老年医学学会智慧医养分会青年学者工作部主任，《Data Science and Management》青年编委，《智慧医养研究动态》学术委员会委员。编著出版教材《大数据导论：基于管理视角》《人工智能与商业数据挖掘：思维、方法与案例》，主持3项省级教学研究项目，获得3项省级教学成果奖。研究聚焦于商业数据挖掘、组织与服务数智化转型，尤其是智慧养老与智慧医疗等交叉学科领域，在MIS Quarterly等国内外主要期刊发表论文40余篇，主持国家自然科学基金、教育部人文社科重大基金子课题及广东省科技计划等10项基金项目，获2022中国信息经济学会创新成果奖。
