摘要：Women are significantly underrepresented in scientific activities, and whether artificial intelligence (AI) technologies would exacerbate or mitigate such gender disparities remains an open debate. Using a sample of U.S. public firms during the period 2010-2021, we find that AI investment is positively associated with the share of women inventors among U.S. public firms. Further analysis suggests that a reduction in the gender productivity gap, improved female career development, and an enhanced cross-gender collaborative environment serve as three possible mechanisms driving this relation. Moreover, leveraging a policy shock that limits the potential for AI algorithmic bias, we find that the positive effect of AI on female participation in innovation is significantly strengthened after this event. Heterogeneity tests show that the effect is stronger for AI applications in areas of science, engineering, and operations, AI usage by rank-and-file employees, and firms in Democratic states. Furthermore, we document that AI-driven female participation improvement in innovation has positive real effects, including higher firm valuation, improved operating and innovation performance, and a strategic shift toward exploitative and process-oriented innovation. Our study suggests that properly deployed AI technologies could promote gender equality among high-skilled labor and offers concrete evidence for the AI-for-Good initiative.

科研领域女性参与度显著不足，人工智能技术究竟会加剧还是缓解这类性别差距仍存有争议，本文以 2010 至 2021 年美国上市公司为研究样本，发现企业人工智能投入与女性发明人占比呈现正向关联，进一步分析表明，缩小性别生产效率差距、推动女性职业发展以及优化跨性别协作环境是形成这一关联的三大作用机制，依托一项限制人工智能算法偏见的政策冲击展开研究后可见，该事件发生后人工智能对女性创新参与度的积极影响明显提升，异质性检验显示，这一作用在科学、工程、运营领域的人工智能应用、基层员工使用人工智能以及民主党执政州的企业中表现更为显著，研究还发现，人工智能推动女性创新参与水平提升能够产生实际积极效用，不仅可以提高企业估值、改善经营与创新业绩，还会促使企业创新战略向应用型、流程化创新转变，该研究说明合理应用人工智能技术能够助力高技能人才领域实现性别平等，也为人工智能向善发展相关倡议提供了切实的实证支撑。

袁涛，南京大学商学院会计系副教授，博士生导师。主要研究领域为可持续金融，包括创新管理，ESG，和信息披露，研究发表在Journal of Financial and Quantitative Analysis; Production and Operations Management等期刊上。主持国家自然科学基金面上项目和青年项目，江苏省社会科学基金青年项目，参与国家自然科学基金重点项目和面上项目。主要负责本科生《财务管理》和专硕的《ESG与可持续金融》教学工作。此外，他受邀担任教育部学位论文评审专家，国家自然科学基金通讯评审专家，他还是全球特许金融分析师（CFA）持证人，担任多个国内外期刊审稿人，包括Management Science, Production and Operations Management, Journal of Corporate Finance, Journal of Empirical Finance等。
